Miles Horner

Baritone

Bio


Baritone Miles Horner was born in Lichfield, Staffordshire.


A keen trumpeter from a young age, Miles turned to singing at the age of 18 and completed his studies at Leeds College of Music, working with international Soprano Lynne Dawson.

Roles included Figaro, Le Nozze di Figaro, Ottone, L’incoronazione di Poppea, Aeneas Dido and Aeneasand Caspar Der FreischutzDuring his time in Leeds, Miles was also choral scholar and principal bass at Leeds Parish Church, under Dr. Simon Lindley.

In 2008, Miles moved to London to begin a freelance career. Subsequent roles have include 1st Muezzin (cover Caliph) The Barber of Baghdad, The Voice Idomeneocover Saul and Familiare Mariah di Rohan (all Buxton Opera Festival), the title role of Don Giovanni, (Focus Opera), described by Sir Peter Maxwell Davis as “One of my favourite Don Giovanni’s”, Fiorello/Figaro, Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Swansea City Opera and Impact Opera), Danciaro, Carmen (Impact Opera), Angelotti, Tosca (Focus Opera), Masetto Don GiovanniAngelotti, Tosca (Opera Up Close), cover Lalchand/Rambashi, The Firework Makers Daughter(Opera North/The Opera Group), Figaro, Le Nozze di Figaro and 2nd Armed Man The Magic Flute (Opera Venture). 


Miles recently created the title role of Pincher Martin in the world premiere of Pincher Martin by composer Oliver Rudland, based on the novel by William Golding to much critical acclaim.


He has also performed much of the standard concert repertoire with choirs and choral societies up and down the country and abroad. Recent engagements have included Fauré Requiem with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Messiah with the Philharmonia Chorus in Valencia, Spain.

In recent years, Miles has become more associated with the works of Gilbert & Sullivan, having appeared in principal roles at the International G&S festival and on tour with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company. Miles also enjoys a continued relationship with Opera Anywhere, performing and directing in both The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado.

More recent work has included Morales, Carmen, (Opera Brava), Basillio, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Benoit/Alcindoro, La Boheme (OperaUpClose), Aeneas, Dido and Aeneas (Opera Lyrica) and he created the role of Hughie Mann in the world premiere of Marcos Fernandez’s opera, Miracle! An Opera of Two Halves.

Future work includes Marcello, La Boheme for Heritage Opera, Morales, Carmen for Opera Brava, Count Ceprano, Rigoletto for Opera Project, Papageno, The Magic Flute for Opera Anywhere and the title role of Don Giovanni in Kuwait City.
